Michigan Youth Cycling is pleased to announce Cameron Buccellato, as the winner of the Steve “Iceman” Brown Junior Cyclist of the Year Award. Cameron was chosen from a long list of applicants for his outstanding academics, exceptional essay and his high level of performance during the 2014 season.

Guest bartenders representing MYC (Michigan Youth Cycling) and Sweet Bikes will be serving drinks from 7-10 at Lily’s Seafood Grill & Brewery in Royal Oak. Bring CASH to tip your favorite bartenders! All donations will be used to support Michigan Youth Cycling Scholarship Program. Lily’s restaurant will donate a portion all items sold during the event to the MYC program. We are pleased to announce The Steve Brown AKA “ICEMAN” Junior Cyclist of the Year Award. We would like to thank Steve Brown’s generous donation of a $1000.00 thru the Iceman Transfers. This has given us a great opportunity to award a Junior Cyclist a $1000.00 Scholarship.
In 2009 we awarded our first $500.00 Scholarship to Zoe Reeves from the Priority Health Cycling Team. In 2010 we awarded a $1000.00 Scholarship to Katie Hamel, Sponsor by Village Bike in Grand Rapids MI. This past weekend at Barry-Roubaix, we awarded four (4) scholarships to riders in both the 24 mile and 36 mile races. In each category we honored the top placing male and top placing female in the 11-18 age group. New for this year, we partnered with Tree Fort Bikes of Ypislanti, MI to present the awards. We are excited to announce that we have chosen Janelle Cole as the recipient of the Steve “aka Iceman” Brown Junior Cyclist of the Year Award. This award is given as a $1000 scholarship to a single youth rider in Michigan based on academic and cycling performance as well as a required 500 word essay.
Partnership Aims to Expand Youth Field in One of the Largest Michigan Events
For 2014, Michigan Youth Cycling has partnered with Tree Fort Bikes of Ypsilanti, MI to present the youth awards at Barry Roubaix. As one of the earliest and largest events on the Michigan cycling calendar, Barry-Roubaix has become an important event for many youth cyclists. The partnership between MYC and Tree Fort has provided the opportunity to help expand the youth category experience at the race. Continue reading →
